BIO

Dr. Elizabeth Bishop (@DrBishopDigital) is an award-winning educator, researcher and youth advocate with two decades of experience holding instructional and administrative appointments in public schools, universities and non-profit organizations in the U.S.  


Dr. Bishop is the Senior Director of Impact and Research at Girls for Gender Equity where she directs the GGE Impact Hub. Dr. Bishop also teaches on the faculties of Urban Education and Youth Studies at the City University of New York and the School of Education at the University of San Francisco. She was the 2024-2025 Scholar-in-Residence in the English Education program in the Department of Arts and Humanities at Teachers College, Columbia University. She is Co-Founder of Global Turning Points, an international consulting collective headquartered in New York City, USA and Bogotá, Colombia.   


Dr. Bishop has previously held leadership positions at Columbia Law School, Teachers College at Columbia University, the City University of New York, Ithaca College and the NYC Department of Education. She has worked as a member of leadership teams in the K-12 and non-profit ecosystem including many years at Global Kids and serves as an organizational consultant for school districts and national community organizations.


Dr. Bishop has authored three books, numerous articles, and has been featured in Good Morning America Digital, PBS NewsHour, Business Insider and PolitiFact. Bishop’s writing includes her 2015 "Becoming Activist: Critical Literacy and Youth Organizing," her 2018 "Embodying Theory: Epistemology, Aesthetics and Resistance" which she created in collaboration with artist Tamsen Wojtanowski and her 2023 "Whiting Out: Writing On Vulnerability, Racism and Repair.” She has a new book tentatively titled “Disrupting Data: Youth Activism and Anti-Surveillance Storytelling” forthcoming from Palgrave-Macmillan.  


Dr. Bishop is an Advisory Committee Member for Human Rights Watch - Children’s Rights Division. Dr. Bishop also sits on the board of the International Surf Therapy Organization where she supports research on surf therapy across 200+ organizations on six continents. She currently leads the first global field scan of surf therapy practitioners.
